Email Address Verification

Before you can start sending emails from your Benchmark account you’ll first need to verify your account’s email address, in a process we call Email Verification. The email verification process consists of Benchmark sending an email to the email address you’ll use to send emails from, you’ll need to open the email and click on the link provided to confirm you are the owner of your email address.

Email address verification is a standard practice in the email marketing industry, that prevents an email sender from using fake From and Reply email addresses. Using a fake email address to hide your real identity is an illegal practice, called spoofing. Spoofing is the act of pretending to be a trusted/legitimate source that a recipient may recognize.

SUGGESTION

For best results, we suggest using your company or business domain instead of a personal email address like Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, and Outlook. Sending from a public domain can impact your delivery rates. To learn why you should avoid sending from a public domain, click here.

How to verify new email addresses

If you just signed up and only need to verify your account’s primary email address, then you have to check your inbox. Benchmark sent you an email with a verify this email address link, click on the link in the email and your account’s email address will be ready to use.

The subject line will read: Please Verify Your Email Address (Action Required)

How to add and verify new email addresses

You can have multiple email addresses to send your email campaigns from, you can have one as the From email address and another as the Reply email address. Whatever your case is you will need to verify the email addresses.

Here’s how you add and verify new email addresses:

  1. Click on your Username and select Account Settings.
  2. Select Email Verification from the menu bar on the left-hand side.
  3. On this page, you’ll see the email addresses you’ve already verified and also any that are pending verification.
  4. Click on the Add Email button.
  1. On the Verify Your Email Addresses pop-up, enter the email address you would like to verify. If you’re adding multiple email addresses, make sure to hit enter after each email address.
  2. When completed, click on Send Verification Email.
  3. Now, go to the inbox of the email address you would like to verify and locate the email and click on the verify this email link.
  4. After you verify the email address it will automatically update in your account. If your email still shows Pending Verification, click on the Refresh option.

How to change your From or Reply email address

When you first sign up to a Benchmark account, we use your primary email address as your From and Reply email. However, if this is not the email you would like to use to send from, you can easily change it.

To learn how to add or change your From or Reply Email address per email campaign, please follow the instructions below.

  1. Once logged into your Benchmark Email account, click on Emails, and then select the Emails option.
  2. Choose the email campaign in which you would like to change the From address.
  3. Scroll down to the From section and click the Edit option.
  1. Enter a name in the From Name section, here we suggest using something your subscribers will instantly recognize, like your company name.
  2. In the From Email Address section, click on the dropdown arrow to select from the available email addresses.
  3. To add a new email, click the Add a new email address link.
  1. In the popup provided, enter the new email address.  When done, click the Send Verification Email option.
  2. You’ll now see a message: Verification email sent. Check your inbox to confirm your email address. 
  3. Go to that email’s inbox, and click on the Verify This Email Address link.
  4. After you verify the email address it will automatically update in your account, if not refresh the page and click on the dropdown, the email address will be added.
How to change a Reply Email address

If you have a specific email address, where you want to receive the replies from your email campaign you can assign a different email address than the From email. The Reply email address can only be changed per email campaign, and by default, we’ll use your account’s default email address.

To change your Reply email address, follow the steps below:
  1. Once logged into your Benchmark Email account, click on Emails, and then select the Emails option.
  2. Choose the email campaign in which you would like to change the From address.
  3. Scroll down to the From section and click the Edit option.
  4. Toggle the slider from gray to blue. Then click on the dropdown to select another Reply email address. Click Save when done.

How to change the default From email address

Your account’s email address is used by default for the From and Reply email address in all your email communication. However, if you want to have a different From email address it can be changed.

To learn how to change your default From email address, follow the steps below.

  1. From your account, click on your account’s name and select Account Settings.
  2. Scroll down to the Email Message Settings, and locate the From Email section.
  3. Click on the dropdown arrow and select one of the emails available.

Not receiving the verification email

If you don’t receive a verification email within 20 minutes, there are several steps you should take.

  • Resend the verification email If some time has passed and you still haven’t received the verification email, you can resend it. Sometimes the email can get buried among other emails in your inbox.
    • To resend it, go to the Email Verification page and in the email address you need verified click on the Resend option.

  • Check your spam or bulk email folder There is a myriad of ways email service providers sort incoming emails. Because these sorting rules are fluid, you may find that important emails are wrongly sent to your spam or bulk email folder. Check those files to see if your verification email is in there.
  • See if your service is blocking emails from Benchmark Some email service providers may prevent you from receiving certain emails. If this happens, the email will “bounce”, which means it won’t show up in your inbox, even in your spam or bulk email folder.
  • Send us a verification request If after 20 minutes the verification email still hasn’t arrived, and you’ve resent send us a verification request. To do that, send an email to support@benchmarkemail.com from the email address you need to verify, with the word “Verify” in the subject line. In the body of the email include your account’s username or email address. Once our support team verifies your email address it will be ready to use.

How to remove verified email addresses

To remove verified email addresses, send our support team an email to support@benchmarkemail.com in the subject line including Remove Verified Email Addresses, and in the body of the email include your account’s username and or email address, and the email addresses that need to be removed.

Limitations

Accounts have a limit of 100 verified emails and are further limited to verifying 20 emails a day.
