Landing Page Domains

Landing Pages Updated on February 13, 2020

Before you can publish a landing page, you’ll need first to connect your domain to Benchmark. To connect your domain, you’ll create a sub-domain and a CNAME record in your Benchmark account and then add it to your DNS settings. The set up is easy, and depending on your hosting service, it can be done and ready to use in just a few minutes. After registering your CNAME record, you can set a URL for your page.

Before getting started, please read the sections below to learn how to generate your CNAME Record and add it to your domain.

Why You Need A Domain

You’ll need to have your own domain to add a subdomain to publish your landing page. Without a domain, you can not create a URL for your page.

What is a Subdomain?

A subdomain is a smaller part of the main domain. It allows you to separate content, and it acts as a unique domain, all while living under your domain hosting service.

Fun fact, did you know that www. is a subdomain?

Benchmark landing pages can not be published without a domain. Benchmark does not host domains, nor does it provide them.

How To Connect & Manage Your Domain

There are two parts to connecting your domain to Benchmark.

Part 1: We’ll show you the steps to get your CNAME Record.

Part 2: We’ll show you what to do to verify your domain after the CNAME Record has been added to your DNS settings.

While your landing pages are created and published with Benchmark, the sub-domain you create is hosted on your domain.

Part One

To connect your domain to Benchmark and add a subdomain, please follow the steps below.

  1. From your Benchmark dashboard, click on Landing Pages, and select Landing Pages.
  2. Now, click on Add Domain
  3. In the subdomain, area add the subdomain you will use. This subdomain is where your Benchmark landing pages will live. For example: where blog is the subdomain.
  4. Then, in the domain area, add your current domain.
  5. When done, click on Generate CNAME Record.
  6. Copy the CNAME Record provided, and in a new window, go to your DNS admin settings.

Domain Hosting Services

Depending on your DNS settings, the steps and wording may be different. However, the Subdomain is usually the Host Name, and Points To is the CNAME Record. The TTL (Time to Live) can stay as is, or you can change the update frequency to 1-5 min minutes.

Choose one of the hosting services below to find instructions on how to add a CNAME record to your domain. If your service is not listed, please let us know, and we can help you retrieve those steps.
